  • Somebody changed my avatar

    I use vbulletin 3.8.4. patch level 2. Somebody entered and changed my avatar. Could you give me some advise on how to investigate that and how to avoid it to be done again?

    Not really enough info to know how they did this. The simplest way, of course, is if they had your password.

    I strongly recommend that you upgrade to at least 3.8.5 for security reasons. Also please see this thread on how to make your vBulletin more secure:

    http://www.vbulletin.com/go/secure

    If you are still being hacked after doing all of this, then they are most likely doing this by accessing your server. You need to contact your host about this.

      finally it was a "funny supermoderator". Is there a way to limit the modifications a supermoderator can do in admin profile? I don't find this as an option in group permissions.

        Are you a protected user?

            You need ftp access, add your user id into config.php, thus will prevent any future funnies.

              Edit this section of includes/config.php:

              // ****** UNDELETABLE / UNALTERABLE USERS ******
              // The users specified here will not be deletable or alterable from the control panel
              by any users.
              // To specify more than one user, separate userids with commas.
              $config['SpecialUsers']['undeletableusers'] = 'x';

              ...with 'x' being your userid number, not user name.
