    My latest reply after getting high server loads

    Code:
    Hello,

    When we checked the server, the load average was "4.17". We did a strace to the process id, which was consuming high CPU resource and got the following result.

    =========
    open("/home/localrac/public_html/forums/includes/class_core.php", O_RDONLY) = 5
    fstat64(5, {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=86572, ...}) = 0
    open("/home/localrac/public_html/forums/includes/class_core.php", O_RDONLY) = 6
    fstat64(6, {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=86572, ...}) = 0
    mmap2(NULL, 86572, PROT_READ, MAP_SHARED, 6, 0) = 0xb6ad4000
    munmap(0xb6ad4000, 86572)               = 0
    close(6)                                = 0
    fcntl64(5, F_GETFL)                     = 0 (flags O_RDONLY)
    fstat64(5, {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=86572, ...}) = 0

    ===========
    The load average became normal now. However, we could see that whenever the load increases, the forum was consuming high resource usage. As the load average came to normal, we didn't suspend the account "localracechat.com".

    I have a VPS. If I experience these loads again, can I just suspend the site to see if the loads drop?

    That means nothing, all that means iws that your scripts got cought under high load showing those items. There is no way that a .css or .js file is causing the server extreme load.

    Just curious, if they shut off your site does the server load instantly go back down?

    How do you optimize the vB scripts?

    I have been having issues with my forum creating high server loads and my host is recommending I optimize the scripts. Does any one have any idea what they are talking about?

    Code:
    ============
    Apache was taking up resources earlier and I have now tweaked apache for better performance. As we have previously mentioned, it would be better if you optimize the
    scripts used on the domain localracechat.com. I am pasting the details of the scripts which are utilizing the maximum resources on the server:
    =============
    localrac    localracechat.com    9.36    127.86    0.1
    Top Process    %CPU 5.7    httpd [localracechat.com] [/forums/showthread.php?t59224]
    Top Process    %CPU 5.1    httpd [localracechat.com] [/forums/clientscript/ncode_imageresizer.js?v1.0.1]
    Top Process    %CPU 5.0    httpd [localracechat.com] [/forums/clientscript/post_thanks.js]

    localrac    localracechat.com    18.35    307.66    0.3
    Top Process    %CPU 52.0    httpd [localracechat.com] [/forums/member.php?u8702&vmid6949]
    Top Process    %CPU 29.0    httpd [localracechat.com] [/forums/droplinebar.css]
    Top Process    %CPU 24.4    httpd [localracechat.com] [/gallery/showimage.php?i6287&catidnewimages]
    =============

    We could not see any further issues on the server. Please optimize them and if you still find any issues with the server, do let us know.
