There are modifications over at www.vbulletin.org that do this

I would guess you could use conditionals in the postbit template where the avatar code is, eg. if the usergroup is unregistered, insert an image of your choice, otherwise insert the normal avatar. I'm sure one of the more experienced users can give you the specific code, but I'm 99.9% certain it's possible this way.

Using a std. (predefined) avatar for Unregistered Users?

How can I define a standard (predefined) avatar for unregistered users? I have a sub forum, where unregistered guest are allowed to post questions, and the std. "unregistered", "Guest" text looks horrible on my site. Want to have a common aavtar on all unregistered posts...

    Any help would be appreciated...
