search fails!

I receive the following message when attempting to use the search in my forum:

"Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 8388608 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 76704 bytes) in /home/dan/public_html/bendisboard/search.php on line 1177"

Search in this forum for "allowed memory" there are lots of people who have posted about this error along with advice on how to fix it.
