User Title Problem

Right i have a small problem,

My site got hacked and the idiot changed loads of user titles all over the place, admin set.

Is there a queriy i can run in sql to change ALL user titles to Default ie NO, not admin set. As i have over 40,000 members and will take a long time to go through each member.

You could setup a user title update scheme to where it forces a title change on all users that meet the post count requirements. After you set it up, you can go to the Maintenance tools and run the "User Title Updates".

Setup the title setting and post count number in the "User Title Manager" in the ADMINCP.

Then, go to Maintenance → Update Counters -- The first option on top will force all users that meet requirement to a new title you just set.

The only other way to clear the titles is through a DB query.

I'm researching the "Admin Set" part of the user title issue... [This is in the USER table under the field "CUSTOMTITLE"]

Inside that data field for the custom title, the data values appear to go this way:

0 = No Custom User Title
1 = Admin Set
2 = User Set

No idea how your permissions are set for users and custom titles, so you'll need to have a look at that. You can use a simple SQL query to reset all users to one of those values above if you so wish.

This query is a basic template:

update user
set customtitle = 0
where customtitle = 1

If your users have the ability to set their own title, then this will reset it so that it's "Set by the user"

To just clear all user titles, this query will clear the data in that field:

update user
set usertitle = ''

You can replace the '' with whatever default title you want to insert.

Remember, you'll need to make sure you select your database from whatever tool you use.

I'd recommend backing up your database if you are not sure what you are doing. I tested these queries on a test forum using VB3.8.4 PL1.
