  • Message too short?

I keep typing long messages, but repeatedly I get the error:

    1. The message you have entered is too short. Please lengthen your message to at least 10 characters.
    What is causing this?

That is a problem with one of your add-ons.

To troubleshoot this, first reupload all the original vB non-image files (except install.php). Make sure you upload these in ASCII format and overwrite the ones on the server. Also be sure to upload the admincp files to whichever directory you have set in your config.php file. Then run 'Suspect File Versions' in Diagnostics to make sure you have all the original files for your version and that none show 'File does not contain expected contents':

Admin CP -> Maintenance -> Diagnostics -> Suspect File Versions

[Note: In some cases you may also need to remove any of the listed .xml files in the includes/xml directory.]

    Next, disable all plugins.

Note: To temporarily disable the plugin system, edit config.php and add this line right under <?php

    define('DISABLE_HOOKS', true);

Then if you still have this problem, create a new style and choose no parent style. This will force it to use the default templates. Finally empty your browser cache, close all browser windows then try again. Make sure you change to the new style and view your forums with it.

Do you have the same problem?

Changing them to default seems to have stopped it. What should I look at now?

This means one of your customer templates is causing this. You will have to investigate them one by one.

I haven't even edited any of them. I was just updating my forum. Updating vbSEO, vBulletin and vbA... will have a look though. Where is the problem likely to be?

What did you mean if you were not talking about templates?

I am talking about changing to default templates... but i am also saying I haven't edited any for the problem to start. So could it be from an upgrade? If not, which are the most likely template files to cause this?

Honestly that doesn't make sense. My guess is that your add-ons made changes to the templates that you are not aware of.

Okay, after some reading, I have found it may be caused by the Facebook Connect modification that I uninstalled prior to this problem: http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showp...58&postcount=7

I am investigating further to see if I can fix it.

Sorted. Facebook Connect = bad modification. Template edits caused the problem
