How to use .ico instead of .gif for this forum_link.gif?

Hi all, currently we use forum_link.gif for the image for a forum, can we use .ico? if so is it complicated? (i have some images that are .ico that i would like to use)

I don't believe all modern browsers support iso. Its likely in your best intrests to get it into a better format.

thanks Zack, it's just the .ico's are a perfect size!, i do have the same icons in png format (they dont translate well to .gif) so is it possible to use .png instead?

i have uploaded the .png icons but they wont show in the forum just an x, how can i change the extension in vbulletin so i can use forum_link.png instead of .gif?

You would need to edit the template so that it is calling the image properly.

That wastes server resources by having to do a replace everytime the template is parsed. Its generally better to edit the template.

Gents, thanks for the replies, could someone tell me which template to edit?, in my forum manager i edit a forum and can put an image prefix i.e excel, i then have a statusicon excelforum_new.gif, somewhere in the software it is being told to look for either the whole name of forum_new.gif or the extension .gif, if i knew where to look for either of these i would be able to change that no problem......i have enough queries going on without adding to them with a replacement variable, thanks anyway.

forumhome_forumbit_levelX_post and forumhome_forumbit_levelX_nopost templates would need to be edited.

Wouldn't that be negated by using a caching system like Xcache?

I have a little question myself, can i replace a vbulletin phrase with text? Because im trying to do that and so far it isint working.
