  • is it Vbulletin or InvisionPower Board?

    Hey guys,

What is the best way to tell what forums an unbranded board is running?

Hopefully, there is a better answer than "you just know" or "by looking at it".

Is there a sure fire way to tell? Possibly something in the source? Ive seen a few boards that look to have eliments of both Vbulletin and InvisionPower Board, so im not sure which they are.

    Thanks in advance

Threads from vBulletin are on showthread.php , unless SEO friendly urls are used.

The right click > view source > should disclose where it's from, but otherwise just follow any .js javascript file, which has the header/footer tagged.

Most people dont buy to take away copyright. So just look at the copyright.

Also im pretty sure vB uses normal .php pages, & invision uses index.php?
        (ex. vB: site.com/showthread.php, Invision: site.com/index.php?showthread.php)

Hey guys, thanks for the replies thus far.

Well, im fairly certain it is unbranded. It is a large board with 1.2 million or so visitors a month.

I took a look at their thread urls and I see this:

          http://site.com/index.php?showtopic=289798

whereas on a thread in my VB forum I see:
          http://site.com/forums/showthread.php?t=843

          Does that mean its Invision?

Also, I looked at both source codes.

          In mine, I found:
          <meta name="generator" content="vBulletin 3.8.2" />

In their, I found no such mention of VBulletin.

Its odd though, the site looks incredibly similar/identical to a vbulletin site. Is IPB able to appear like VB?

          Thanks in advance.

Judging from the url it's IPB.

By the way you can re-brand both of them...change the file names, cookies, even the javascript functions and their names...but it would be very hard to upgrade afterward...also the extension wouldn't work.

                Thanks for your help guys.

Also, you may be able to help with my main goal. Down in there "whois online" section, it shows the bots that are currently online. "Ask Jeeves" "Google.com" and so on. Is there a way to do this with vB? I have tried a few mods over at VB.org but nothing seemed to produce the same result.

It is invision. The "Lo-Fi Version" gave it away....
heres an example invision board: http://www.ibpdownloads.com/ipb/index.php?act=idx

it has the "Lo-Fi Version" also. so yes it is an Invision Board

                      Not bad...

vB5 is unequivocally the best forum software, but not yet...

The skin could be done. It is not difficultt to do the same skin for vB.
