  • Forum slow...

I ungraded to 3.8.2 yesterday. The forum worked fine all day till last night.. It really became slow.. I mean 1998 AOL dialup slow.. Contacted my host about the issue. They sent me a email this morning.. This is what they said they found..

    I've found that the
following processes can be linked to your high I/O usage:

    texas 2170 1095 0 20:29 ? 00:00:00 /ramdisk/bin/php4
    texas 2389 1095 0 20:29 ? 00:00:00 /ramdisk/bin/php4
    texas 2924 1809 0 20:29 ? 00:00:00 /ramdisk/bin/php4
    texas 5118 3672 0 20:30 ? 00:00:00 /ramdisk/bin/php4
    texas 5119 5079 0 20:30 ? 00:00:00 /ramdisk/bin/php4
    texas 6336 5128 0 20:31 ? 00:00:00 /ramdisk/bin/php4

I'd recommend that you take steps to reduce the amount of I/O these processes are
using. This will ensure that your site is as responsive as possible at any given
Is there anything on my end in the admin panel that I can do to help keep this from happening? My forum is only 3 moths old and around 300 members

This is the first time this has happened.... Any help would be great..

    Thanks ...

Those are required files by vBulletin.
If your host isn't capable of running professional PHP / MySQL web applications,
I recommend changing hosting provider and try another one.

That log file does not show I/O issues.

      The host is running

      PHP version 5.2.9

      MySQL version 5.0.75-community-log

Are these not adequate for Vb.?

Yes they are but there is a heck of a lot more to running a server than using specific versions of PHP and MySQL.

I guess if this happens again, I'm almost certain it will. I will search the forum for a recommended host. I would rather do that now before the forum get to large and I have even worse issues..

Does Vb Have a recommended host??

URLJet seems to be doing good with vB hosting. I read more positive reviews than negative.
