  • Mysql error wwhen user pick icon by postin

    Few of our users get mysql error when they select an icon for message by posting

    Database error in vBulletin 3.8.1:

    Invalid SQL:

    SELECT usergroupid FROM forum_icon AS icon
    INNER JOIN forum_imagecategorypermission USING (imagecategoryid)
    WHERE icon.iconid = 7
    AND usergroupid IN (,2,11);

    please advise

    It would help to have the complete error.

    However Invalid SQL errors are almost always related to modified code. To troubleshoot this, the first thing you need to do is remove any hacks or plugins, then see if you still have this problem.

    If so, reupload all the original vB non-image files (except install.php). Make sure you upload these in ASCII format and overwrite the ones on the server.

    Next, create a new style and choose no parent style. This will force it to use the default templates. Finally empty your browser cache, close all browser windows then try again. Make sure you change to the new style and view your forums with it. Do you have the same problem?

      this is the complete error ,

      Invalid SQL:

      SELECT usergroupid FROM forum_icon AS icon
      INNER JOIN forum_imagecategorypermission USING (imagecategoryid)
      WHERE icon.iconid = 7
      AND usergroupid IN (,2,11);

      MySQL Error : You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near '2,11)' at line 4

      and your instructions canot be used , this is not a fresh install , forum is live with 36000 users , using manual as reference does not help at all . forum is live since 3 months and no new modifications are done since than.3.8.1 Patch Level 1

            If you posted the complete error, including the script, then I might be able to do that. Nonetheless I did post instructions on fixing this. Here's the more complete version.

            To troubleshoot this, first reupload all the original vB non-image files (except install.php). Make sure you upload these in ASCII format and overwrite the ones on the server. Also be sure to upload the admincp files to whichever directory you have set in your config.php file. Then run 'Suspect File Versions' in Diagnostics to make sure you have all the original files for your version and that none show 'File does not contain expected contents':

            Admin CP -> Maintenance -> Diagnostics -> Suspect File Versions

            [Note: In some cases you may also need to remove any of the listed .xml files in the includes/xml directory.]

            Next, disable all plugins.

            Note: To temporarily disable the plugin system, edit config.php and add this line right under <?php

            define('DISABLE_HOOKS', true);

            Then if you still have this problem, create a new style and choose no parent style. This will force it to use the default templates. Finally empty your browser cache, close all browser windows then try again. Make sure you change to the new style and view your forums with it.

            Do you have the same problem?

                And as I have said twice now we need to know the complete error, including the script information.

                      That is the newthread.php script. And you already answered your own question. It's happening 'when they select an icon for message by posting'.

                      The next step in troubleshooting this is to follow the instructions I have already posted. I hope that is clear now.

                        that file was never touched , it is as it was when I got vbull , there are no hooks affecting that file so sql error is from original version and there is no such sql in there

                          I didn't say the file was touched. You will need to follow the instructions I've given to troubleshoot this. If you do not want to do that then you can try getting help over at www.vbulletin.org.
