  • vBulletin Database Error with RSS Function

Hello. I have started to get a vBulletin Database Error on the RSS feed from one of my forum sections. The complete error is shown below.

    Here are the details:

I am my own host and I just moved eveything to a faster machine. The system was built up from scratch starting with a disk format and fresh install of the operating system. The hardware is a Dell Dimension 9100. The move went without a problem.

Operating System: Windows XP Service Pack 2
    Web Server: Apache 2.2.11
    PHP: 5.2.9-1
    MySQL: 5.1.32-community
    vBulletin: 3.8.1 PL1

During the move MySQL was upgraded from 5.0.51a-community to version 5.1.32-community and vBulletin was upgraded from 3.8.0 to 3.8.1

The error occurs when someone tries to get the RSS feed from one section All of the other RSS feeds in all the other sections work fine. The RSS feed from the section producing the error works fine from the old server.

The error reports the source as vBulletin 3.8.0, but I am running 3.8.1

This section has publications with only a small amount of HTML. Some of my other sections are composed of publications which are entirely HTML.

Does anyone have a suggestion on how to fix this?

    Here is the complete error:

First, your db is not 3.8.1. Reupload all the 3.8.1 non-image files. Make sure you upload these in ASCII format, overwrite the ones on the server, and that version 3.8.1 shows in the upper right-hand corner of the page. Then run 'upgrade.php' again.

That error is a server issue. You'll need to contact your host about this. Here are the reasons for the MySQL server going away:

    Also from the MySQL site:

      Database Error

      Thanks for your reply, Steve.

Can you define what you are referring to as "non-image" files?

The upgrade to 3.8.1 should have worked. It was done after the 3.8.0 database was imported on the new server.

I am the host so I have no one to contact.

In MySQL max_allowed_packets has been set to 32M for quite some time. I have publications that contain tens of thousands of names in HTML tables in another section. It only appears to be one section that is affected and only RSS in that section.

Might a rollback to 3.8.0 fix the problem?

        Everything expect the 'images' directory.

And this is not related to the vB version. This is a server issue and there are more possible causes than the 'max_allowed_packets' setting. One of the most likely is 'wait_timeout' being too low.

wait_timeout is set at 28800 which would be the default anyway. I will continue hunting. I may have to go back to MySQL 5.0.51a
