  • Adding a ‘home page’ link in header?

    Hi newbie here, I’ve found the answer to a number of questions here, but despite a search I can’t find anything to help me with this.

    When you go into a forum, you get the plain text links in the header, e.g.

    Doctor Watson Forums > General Discussion Forums

    What I want to do is add a link to the home page, e.g.

    Doctor Watson Homepage > Doctor Watson Forums > General Discussion Forums

    Can anyone help?

    Thanks in advance.

      not altogether with you - you have a link to the homepage its the first part of the link

      at the top of this page if you click on vBulletin Community Forum

      that will take you back to the home page

      if thats not enough just put a link in the navbar

        Thanks for the reply Tony, but that link takes visiotrs back to the forum home page, and the forums are only part of my site, so what I want to do is put a link in back to the main site home page.

        EG:

        Doctor Watson [main site] Homepage > Doctor Watson Forums [homepage] > General Discussion Forums

          Edit the following line in your NAVBAR template to add the necessary link in:

          Code:
          <td width="100%"><span class="navbar"><a href="$vboptions[forumhome].php$session[sessionurl_q]" accesskey="1">$vboptions[bbtitle]</a></span> $navbits[breadcrumb]</td>
             </tr>
          Vote for:

          - *Admin Settable Paid Subscription Reminder Timeframe*
          -
          *PM - Add ability to reply to originator only*
          - Add Admin ability to auto-subscribe users to specific channel(s)
          - Highlight the correct navigation tab when you are on a custom page
          - "Quick Route" Interface...
          - Allow to use custom icons for individual forums

            Hi Trevster & thanks for your reply, but I am totally lost with how I need to edit that code, I am a complete newbie/dummy with this sort of thing.

            Although I've managed to copy & paste some code from another thread to add a couple of links to the main navbar this morning, so I am feeling proud of myself!

            Can you, or someone, help by showing where I need to edit it & what code I need to add in an idiot proof way?

            If anyone can help I would be very grateful.

            EG: Like this, with the new bit in red, so I only have to add the URL & TEXT.

            <tr align="center">
            <td class="vbmenu_control"><a href="URL">TEXT</a></td>
            <if condition="$show['member']">

              Find the following:

              Code:
              <td width="100%"><span class="navbar"><a href="$vboptions[forumhome].php$session[sessionurl_q]" accesskey="1">$vboptions[bbtitle]</a></span> $navbits[breadcrumb]</td>
              Replace it with:

              Code:
              <td width="100%"><span class="navbar"><a href="$vboptions[homeurl]">$vboptions[hometitle]</a> > <a href="$vboptions[forumhome].php$session[sessionurl_q]" accesskey="1">$vboptions[bbtitle]</a></span> $navbits[breadcrumb]</td>
              That will pick up the URL and homepage title from AdminCP > vBulletin Options

                Cheers Trevster, I did have a bit of a problem there, confused by the find/replace code quotes in your above post being the wrong way around. I only mention this in case anyone else tries this.

                    Grrr - I've just noticed I seem to have screwed something up. /

                    On this test page: http://doctorwatson.info//forumdisplay.php?f=2

                    - you'll see the following links all appear in the right place (to the left);

                    Home Page > Forums - Main Index > General Discussion Forums

                    But, the 'General Forum' link has drifted off to the right near the 'welcome' block.

                    I assume there's something gone adrift in the coding - can anyone help?

                    The code that has been added is highlighted in red:

                    td><a href="#" onclick="history.back(1); return false;"><img src="$stylevar[imgdir_misc]/navbits_start.gif" alt="$vbphrase[go_back]" border="0" /></a></td>
                    <td>&nbsp;</td>
                    <td width="100%"><span class="navbar"><a href="$vboptions[homeurl]">$vboptions[hometitle]</a> > <a href="$vboptions[forumhome].php$session[sessionurl_q]" accesskey="1">$vboptions[bbtitle]</a></span> $navbits[breadcrumb]</td>
                    <td class="navbar" style="font-size:10pt; padding-top:1px" colspan="3"><if condition="$_SERVER['REQUEST_METHOD'] == 'POST'"><img class="inlineimg" src="$stylevar[imgdir_misc]/navbits_finallink_$stylevar[textdirection].gif" alt="" border="0" /><else /><a href="$navbar_reloadurl"><img class="inlineimg" src="$stylevar[imgdir_misc]/navbits_finallink_$stylevar[textdirection].gif" alt="$vbphrase[reload_this_page]" border="0" /></a></if> <strong>$navbits[lastelement]</strong></td>

                      cannot reproduce what you are getting by adding the 'red' code to standard navbar code

                      have you altered anything else - i get something similar but the left hand bit is complete with some duplication near the log in box

                        The only other bit of code changed was to add links in the main navbar (white out of blue strip), but that was done a few days before and didn't cause the problem.

                        I can't help thinking when I pasted in this change of code, I did something by accident to the code appearing just before or after this new/red bit was pasted in.

                          you can revert the navbar template to its original and start again - save the 2 bits of code and you can then try adding them again

                          you can also compare your code with the original - you know what you wanted to add - see if anything else shows up

                          but as i said even adding what you 'think' you did does not work for me

                            Cheers Tony, I think that's what I'll do, go back to the default setting & start again.

                            BTW - I'll reply to your PM in a bit as I think I can help you with that question.

                              Yep, that has solved my problem and it only took 1/2 hour.

                              Thanks again Trevster & Tony for your help.
