Another good way of catching the spammers is by using the question answer thing. Where you create the questions and the answers to go with it, just to make sure that those spammers are actually bots and not human. (They won't answer the questions if they aren't human)

I have Q&A options added, yet i have had up to 30 new members in the last day.

I have added a modification to restrict the posting of links when you have less than 15 posts. This has reduced the effect somewhat. Do you suggest I delete these members?

I don't like Akismet because it gets false positives sometimes, just like any spam filter.

There seems to be a spam campaign going on recently. Lots of forums are getting hit. The ideal is to stop the spam bots from even registering. You can use one of the human verification options:

Admin CP -> vBulletin Options -> Human Verification Manager (on the left, not the right)

The Q&A option can be very effective. Note that the "image verification" option isn't very effective anymore since some bots are programmed to read those images.

I initially thought the problem was with the vBulletin version, so I updated http://www.adminfuel.com to vB 3.8

However, things still seem to be bad. I have fewer posts being caught by Akismet as they were before.

I have done all the steps in the thread pointed to in the previous topic that I created. I am now working on making the Q&A questions more difficult, but is there something I am missing?
