  • IPB to vb conversion. Avatars did not import

Just moved from IPB to new vbulletin. Our custom avatar folders did not import over. I uploaded some of the custom avatar folders to /public_html/forums/customavatars but don't see them in the control panel as an option to pick. Any ideas?

    Thanks.

    1) Make sure you specified the correct path to the IPB avatar directory when you imported your users.

    2) Make sure that directory and its files are readable.

    3) Make sure your imported users have permission to use avatars or their imported avatars won't show.

Note that imported groups have no permissions by default. I recommend you delete the imported groups which will automatically move the imported users to the default Registered Users group which already has appropriate permissions.

The default Registered Users group after a fresh installation does not have permission to use custom avatars, so you need to enable this permission for Registered Users if you want the imported avatars to show:

Admin CP -> Usergroups -> Usergroup Manager -> Edit Usergroup -> Can Upload Custom Avatars

Or if you are talking about predefined avatars from which users can choose... you need to upload the avatars to the images/avatars directory via FTP. Then go to your:

Admin CP -> Avatars -> Add New Avatars

There is an option to add multiple avatars at once.

vb tech support here did the import. We were told if the avatars didn't import it was a one time dealio to try to import them or they'd have to do the whole forum import all over again.

        2) Deleted imported user group so they reverted to Registered Users.

        3) Directory and its files are readable.

        4) Enabled custom avatar permission for Registered Users.

        5) Did the Admin CP -> Avatars -> Add New Avatars. Added 10 custom avatars. Now for just one custom avatar folder there are 10 avatars strung out across the avatar choice page. In IPB each avatar folder was clickable as we have several folders with scores of avatars in them. Any way to have just the avatar folders show on the avatar choice page and not the 100 or so individual avatars we have?

          5) You can setup categories:

Admin CP -> Avatars -> Avatar Manager -> [Add New Avatar Category]

This page also has some relevant settings:

Admin CP -> vBulletin Options -> User Picture Options
