  • Strange search behavior...

A user brought this to my attention.

They searched for 'A' and it hit a particular thread.

They searched for 'B C' and hit that same thread.

They searched for 'A B C' and it didn't bring that thread up at all.

Maybe someone familiar with how the search works can explain. Thanks.

Did they use the quotes as illustrated? If you are using full-text search and the quotes are used it forces the system to use Natural Language phrase searching. If the exact phrase doesn't exist then it won't be in the search results. If they use boolean operations of +A +B +C, then the thread should show in the results if all three words exist in it. If they used A B C, without the quotes, then it would show all thread which contain anyone of those words as the default operator is OR.

they didn't use the quotes, just what was between the single quotes.
