Uploading user images to a remote server? Like attachments, avatars, etc

Is this possible to do with the current vb3 system or this has to be done with some type of mod?

Avatars and Attachments not recognised.

The advice given here beforehand to copy the attachments and avatars etc was done before I started the upgrade.
I have copied the files back to the same locations, but the forum is not seeing them....
