    Templates and me

Templates are smarter than I am. I struggle with templates after each upgrade I do.

Here's where I'm at after my upgrade to 3.8.6 Patch Level 1:

I recently upgraded and have 5 templates that have been updated from the versions I am using.

    1) My first question is why, when comparing the current version of the template (the one I have installed) to the Current Default version (the most recent Jelsoft version), does the template Comparison page show (using the color yellow) that there are changes but the templates don't show a difference?

See image for example. (the "</table>" is the same on current and current default versions).

    2) How does one make the decision whether to revert to the new default template or use their current version?

    Thanks.

Strange one... All I can think of is that spaces were added before or after when you were editing it previously and it's picking these up.

Regarding how to decide, I guess it depends on the level of customisation. You just need to look at the changes as decide whether it will be easier to start from scratch or whether to accept any merge/make the changes yourself

Is there a way I can compare the default templates from 3.6.8 to the customized version that I have? How would I find the default templates from 3.6.8?

      Thanks.

If you edit the template, there is a link to 'Show Default' beside the textbox

Is that showing me the default template for the version of vbulletin I am using (3.8.6) or is it showing me the default version of the edited template (from vb 3.6.8)?

          Thank you for the information.

            For the version you're running.

You mean the version of vBulletin that I am running, right?

I need to compare the default version of the forumhome template to the version of the template that I have customized (3.6.8) in order to see what changes I made.

How would I find the default templates from 3.6.8 after I have upgraded to vB 3.8.6?

I have an old 3.6.8 'upload' folder. Would the default template be somewhere in there?

Reverting your custom templates would restore them to the 3.8.6 defaults.

But I need the 3.6.8 defaults to compare to my customized 3.6.8 template.

Where can I find the 3.6.8 default templates?

3.6.8 templates very likely will not work with 3.8.6. Nonetheless the only way to get at those would be to install a 3.6.8 test forum and make copies of those original templates.

No, it would be in the database. That is why you need to install a test copy.
