3.6.8 > 3.8.5

Hi guys,

I want to update for the obvious features and security enhancements. The previous owner had some template calls that I'm afraid might get affected. Anyway to ensure that I don't break the design?

Best thing to do is copy your existing board and db to a test area and try the upgrade there to see what your up against. Not having a test site is like rolling the dice every time you make a change.

Our license allows this so long as that test directory is password protected.

That depends upon the modifications installed. Some mods from 3.6 work on 3.8.5 and some dont without adjustments. However I suggest that you start fresh again 3.6 to 3.8 is a big jump as it is.

Hi, guys! I have the same question like you did. I wonder if you have done the upgrade and everything is fine now? I have vBulletin 3.6.8 with active "enlighten1" template installed. And want to upgrade to 3.8.5 one and maybe to 4.0.x if it will be possible to keep the design. My site is www.stroiteli.info if it gives you additional information.

It's likely that there will be template changes that will affect the look of your site when moving from 3.6.8 to 3.8.5. Note that any 3.x style will NOT work on 4.0 - you will need to get a 4.0 version or custom style your site yourself.

Now I don't see any reason to do any upgrade there. It works good now and I like the design of it. If somebody gives me one reason for an upgrade I will be pleased and start thinking about this again

One word - security...

Why not try the upgrade out on a test site first and see what changes you'd need to make. Have a look at the link in my signature on how to setup a test site.
