  • Upgraded from 3.8 to .8.4.pl1 - Broken Avatars

    Hi,

I did the upgrade yesterday to 3.8.4.pl1 and every user's avatars broke - any suggestions?

You didn't remove the 'images' folder did you from your directory during the upgrade/updating process? I've done that before lol

A simple upgrade would not have done that. To troubleshoot this, first reupload all the original vB non-image files (except install.php). Make sure you upload these in ASCII format and overwrite the ones on the server. Also be sure to upload the admincp files to whichever directory you have set in your config.php file. Then run 'Suspect File Versions' in Diagnostics to make sure you have all the original files for your version and that none show 'File does not contain expected contents':

Admin CP -> Maintenance -> Diagnostics -> Suspect File Versions

[Note: In some cases you may also need to remove any of the listed .xml files in the includes/xml directory.]

      Next, disable all plugins.

Note: To temporarily disable the plugin system, edit config.php and add this line right under <?php

      define('DISABLE_HOOKS', true);

Then if you still have this problem, create a new style and choose no parent style. This will force it to use the default templates. Finally empty your browser cache, close all browser windows then try again. Make sure you change to the new style and view your forums with it.

Do you have the same problem?

        Hi Steve,

I finally got around to doing all the below, but the avatars are still not displaying. If I go to an individual user's profile the avatar shows up, but will not display on the forum pages.

          Check these settings:

User CP -> Edit Options -> Thread Display Options -> Visible Post Elements

          Show Signatures
          Show Avatars
Show Images (including attached images and images in [IMG] code)

              That error means:

Error code 28: No space left on device

One or more partitions on your server is out of space or doesn't have enough space to complete this operation. Shutdown your forums (if you can) and contact your host immediately. You or your host will need to find out which partition is low on space and free up some more space.

Here is an explanation of the error on the MySQL site:

                Hi Steve,

I had the board set up on another server - no more error messages, but still no avatars displaying. Any more suggestions?

If you really have removed all add-ons and can duplicate this problem with the original templates then fill out a support ticket at:

                  http://members.vbulletin.com/members...ontactform.php

Please include a complete description of the problem and be sure to include the login info to your Admin CP, phpMyAdmin and FTP in the 'Sensitive Data' field.
