VB 3.7 upgrade and adding Joomla

I'm planning a VB upgrade from 3.7 to the latest VB version. Right now the site is a forum only and we want to add content as needed. Most do NOT know any html so we are going to go woth Joomla as a CMS.

So heres the rub. The VB is currently installed in the root directory of the provider. I'd like to move VB to a subfolder, htdocs/VBulletin. Install Joomla into the root where it needs to be and bridge the two together using the one database from VB.

So what do I need to do to move VB to the sub-directory and not lose any forum content?? Do I install the upgrade into the subdirectory and just reconfigure VB to look for the database at its location?? Couldn't be quite that SIMPLE I'm thinking... NO??

    Many Thx

Either move the files then upgrade or upgrade then move the files. If you just install the latest version then try using the existing database, you'll have problems as certain database and template changes will not have been made to it.

Make sure that you update the Site URL field in AdminCP > vBulletin Options > Site Name / URL / Contact Details also.
    Vote for:

    - Admin Settable Paid Subscription Reminder Timeframe (vB6)
    - Add Admin ability to auto-subscribe users to specific channel(s) (vB6)

Ok... I think it might be easier to do an install into the subdirectory first, then move the files needed into the fresh install. Then do the admin changes as nessecary.. yes??

Once I get everything running in the subdirectory then I can clean out the root directory of all files and install joomla, then bridge the two... Want to keep things as simple as possible...

      THX for your reply

        Here's what I'd do:

        - Upload 3.8.4 files to the sub-directory
        - Close your forums (from AdminCP in root directory)
        - Backup your database
        - Run upgrade script yoursite.com/vbulletin/install/upgrade.php
        - Log in to Admin and change the relevant entries
        - Test around the site, make sure all looks OK
        - Place redirect in root directory pointing to new sub-directory
        - Re-open forums
        - Empty all non-necessary files from the root directory (leave the redirect tho!)
        Vote for:

        - Admin Settable Paid Subscription Reminder Timeframe (vB6)
        - Add Admin ability to auto-subscribe users to specific channel(s) (vB6)
