When you get the page "the database has encountered a problem", view the page source and at the bottom is the actually mysql error message. Something like this:
    Code:
MySQL Error : some sort of something here
Error Number : another something here
    Date : Sunday, April 13th 2008 @ 11:16:43 AM
    Script : http://address.path.path/page.php
    Referrer :
    IP Address : **.***.**.***
    Username : username
    Classname : database
Let us know what that error is (or just post that portion).

Please don't PM or VM me for support - I only help out in the threads.

If I post CSS and you don't know where it goes, throw it into the additional.css template.

It sounds like either the info you put in the config.php file for your database username/password is incorrect, or you didn't set up the permissions correctly for that user to the database.

I didn't really see a way to set up the databases nd the permissions I must not have... Any idea what I can do ??

What i did was just add database to phpmyadmin, changed u/n pw database/server names in the config and ftpd file..

I'm not sure how to do it via phpMyAdmin. I've always done it via ssh/shell.

Hopefully Steve or Wayne or another person who knows will come along. If not, you can put in a support ticket and ask about it.

The most likely cause of this error is that the info in your config.php file is wrong or your db user does not have full permissions to this database. Please read this for all the known causes of this error:

If you recieved that in email, or via web interface, then it is most likely that the installation was not finished and the forum was accessed.

Once installation has finished, all should be ok

Here is what I did. Logged into powweb, went to phpmyadmin, created database, named it forums, added a user name, added a password, changed all necessary? fields in the config file, uploaded it to root directory and nothing!

I will also need to migrate from phpbb3 whats the best way of installing this, as the phpbb3 is on a subcat. forums.domain.com i want domain.com/forum, as ive read thats better for seo purposes.

                          ? Thanks

Yes we have an import scripts for phpBB. You can read about them here:

                            phpBB2:
                            http://www.vbulletin.com/docs/html/impex_phpbb2

                            phpBB3:
                            http://www.vbulletin.com/docs/html/impex_phpbb3

Please note that since phpBB3 passwords are encrypted, they cannot be imported. Your users will need to reset their passwords after the import. You can read more about this here:

                            http://www.vbulletin.com/docs/html/impex_passwords

Please read the online Impex import instructions here:

                            http://www.vbulletin.com/docs/html/impex

As for which is better for SEO I have no idea. I'm sure someone will give an answer to that though.
