  • Can I move an existing forum to a new domain name?

I have an existing forum with a not so popular domain name. I registered a new domain that is better and I am wondering if it's possible to transfer the forum database to the new domain? Thanks.

Unless you can get your host to do this for you the way to do this would be to backup and restore the db.

The only consistently reliable method of backing up and restoring a database is with shell access via telnet or ssh. This is because backing up with a PHP script like that in the Admin CP or phpMyAdmin can result in PHP timeout errors and an incomplete backup file.

    Please see the instructions here:

    Backup:

    Restore:
    http://www.vbulletin.com/docs/html/m...ce_ssh_restore

If you don't have telnet or SSH access, some people have reported success with these scripts:

    MySQLDumper:
    http://www.mysqldumper.de/en/index.php

    MySQLHotxcopy:

Would you like to stay with your current host?
You may simply PARK the new domain with your current host,do not change anything else...

Both of the links would work:
      olddomain.com/forum
      newdomain.com/forum

vB5 is unequivocally the best forum software, but not yet...
