Template edits and file edits are not the same in this case.

That is simply not true. Most use the plugin system and do not require editing vB files.

Regardless we cannot provide support for modifications and modified files. If you do not want to upgrade correctly then you can try asking for help over at www.vbulletin.org.

No, you need to upload all the 3.8.3 files, except possibly the images. You should never directly edit any vB file other than config.php.

So to get a final answer to my question..........

Would it be ok to NOT upload the files i have edited for that mod?

    The files i edit were:

    search.php
    external.php
    archive/index.php
    includes/functions_digest.php
    includes/functions_forumdisplay.php
    includes/functions_newpost.php
    clientscript/vbulletin_textedit.js
    clientscript/vbulletin_quick_reply.js

    Thanks

Upgrading will always overwrite any hacks or changes you made to the vB files. However it will not change any plug-in or product add-ons, although you may have to ask the authors of these add-ons if they are compatible with the latest version of vB.

Also upgrading will not overwrite custom templates. Nonetheless you may have to revert your custom templates and redo your changes depending on the template and the version you are upgrading from and any add-on you have.

As for the hide hack, that is something you should ask over at www.vbulletin.org.

    Upgrading To 3.8.3 ?

Ive just downloaded the package, but heres the thing..........

Ive recently installed the hide hack mod that involved several template edits

So how should i upload the 3.8.3 version?

Should i upload EVERYTHING & re-edit the files?

    or

Can i just not upload the files that i edited for the hide mod?

    Thanks
