Aaah... thank you very much.

Because it's on a VPS, my ISP instructed me where the php.ini file is so I could change the value myself to 32M.

Phpinfo now reports Local Value at 32MB and Master Value at 8MB.

So it took a little doing, and after a server reboot and some clearing of the browser cache, but the install process is completed now and we're all good.

In spite of your changes to config.php, your server is still only using 8M memory:

Allowed memory size of 8388608 bytes exhausted

You will need to ask your host to increased this to 32M on the server.

I also did re-download the package and ftp'd the xml and other ascii files in ascii with no change in the situation.

I've been running vBulletin 3.6.8 Patch Level 2 for about a year, and now I am trying to upgrade to 3.8.2.

I got as far as the vBulletin 3.8 Upgrade System, XML Versions 3.8.2, and it's stopping at:

Step 2) Import latest admin help (Step 2 of 5).

I have a phpinfo file setup: (link deleted)

I have changed my config.php to start with:

I rebooted the server hoping that might help, and here's part of my error log in the timeframe I tried the last upgrade, though I'm not sure what it means:
