  • Animated GIF Banners in Advertising

In vB Cloud We have some animated GIF banners in our header area advertising, not uploads of them to channels. Just the animated GIF banners don't appear clearly, actually background can disappear, more than one frame appears over the other etc. Are animated gif not allowed, or do we do something in settings so they appear clearly.

How are you uploading these images to the server?

You should use the vBCloud File Manager in the AdminCP. If this is the method you're using, do they fit within the allowed guidelines specified in the Attachment -> Attachment Type Manager?

Yes, they were uploaded with the File Manager. Yes, they are within the sizes. In fact all the JPG versions the exact same size appear. Is there a GIF permission of some sort?

The only permissions for animated GIF files relate to Avatars and Channel Icons.

Each image type (GIF, JPEG, PNG) has its own settings under Attachments -> Attachment Storage Type. If your image does not fit within the parameters allowed (1440 X 900 pixels and 900,000 bytes in a default install) it will be resized and converted to a JPEG file. JPEG files do not support animation or transparent backgrounds. This conversion can also result in color shifts within the image.

Since you migrated from vBulletin 4, your file sizes could be much lower and don't meet today's modern image sizes. You should adjust them to fit your needs.

These are paid advertising banners, the size is 300 pixels wide and 75 pixels tall and low file sizes. We load them native to the server through the panel upload. All the JPG work fine. Oddly just the gif animated do weird things. We may just ask them to send us only JPG.

vBulletin 4 era default uploads have a 20,000 byte file limit for GIF files. Anything above that will be converted to JPEG if the file size is not adjusted in the AdminCP.

That might be it. Taking a look, thanks Wayne.
