  • Redirect 404 pages to root node

When I first started my site over 2 years ago there was a URl issue. I was told to switch this on (Redirect 404 pages to root node) which did correct the problem at that time. As of now it's still on. Is this still needed or can I switch it off. Does it matter either way? Will it cause any adverse effects by turning it off?

Depends on what the URL issue was. The only way to know would be to test the situation on your site.

If you turn it off and the URL doesn't exist in vBulletin, the end user will get an error stating it doesn't exist. With it on, they don't get an error and will be shown your vBulletin Home Page.

Ok thanks. The url still works I already tried that. Was just looking to find out if it would affect my google search rankings or be detrimental for anything else. Should I just leave it on?

Any broken URLS are already reported to Google as a 404 (not found) whether the site redirects to the home page or not.
