  • Searching for URL

Newbie question number 2. I've had a search on here but couldn't find anything...

Users want to be able to search within the board for a URL to see if that web page has been mentioned before. Typing a specific URL into the search bar returns lots of results, like its split the search up into different word and returning any result with one of those words... is there a means of limiting the search to a specific string - either via config or operators within the search box?

You can't search for a URL. Punctuation is treated as a stop character, same as a space. This means your search will be treated as several separate words. i.e. http and google. Words under 4 characters should not be indexed so you won't see results for www and com. The only exception to this is a single dash ('-'). Words with a dash in them will be indexed as word1-word2, word1, and word2.

You could search to the base domain like google instead of https://www.google.com.
