Avoid servers hosted in Europe, Europe is known for high priced bandwidth.

With oneandone you could get a 40gb hard drive and only 10gb bandwidth a month, that is not on.

The majorirty of websites will use more transfer than web space, so this is where oneandone will be making their money as they charge £5 per extra ONE gigabyte.

Oh please, I wish people would stop spouting this rhetoric about Europe being high priced. Just because some European hosts charge £5 per GB it doesn't mean all do, or that it is particularly expensive in Europe - The first rule of business is you price for your market and then try push it to get as much as you can. There are still hosts in the USA charging $10 per GB of extra transfer - so does this mean everyone in the USA is expensive? Nope.

Well, Schlund + Partner is known as a very high quality provider here in Germany - but it's also known as a high price provider It's used by many big commercial sites which need to be sure they have a 100% uptime and so on, not for private projects...

They also have a sister firm (don't know if it's called so in english?) called 1&1 New Webhosting (known as Puretec) which are relatively cheap and have a good connection and uptime - but forget about support. They also offer shared servers (called RootServer, ManagedServer and WindowsServer) for 50 EUR incl. 50 GB traffic, but more traffic is VERY expensive... and I'm not sure if you can buy anything from 1&1 New Webhosting from outside Germany...

If you want 24 h free support, also 3:00AM in the morning on sundays, you can choose Schlund. If you want to get a cheaper server you should choose 1&1.

No, thats wrong. 1&1-Server only includes 75Gigs at a Cost of 5€ for every extra GB of Traffic. Shared hosting still has a maximum of 50Gigs

Take a look at www.schlund.de. They have increased the traffic by the factor 10. The biggest server has now 750GB. The biggest 1&1 Server has 150GB traffic inclusive in Germany.
