  • Being LowBalled by Bluehost

Was wanting to know, if anyone had similar experience. Our site was so called hacked on Sunday and our index.html was supposedly infected. The first agent fixed the issue and left the index file on and put an index test file in it place just saying "Hello". The site was back up and running, however our homepage was redirecting incorrectly. Next agent on the monday was apparently and terms of use agent, what are the chances lol. So he proceeds to tell us our site has been compromised and we have a lot of malware all over, after running a scan and leaving a malware.txt on the server , showing which files infected. Then says he is disabling our account as we are in breach. Then proceeds to put on a sales pitch, for us to buy SitePrevent at $500 or Sitelock Fix at $339, to correct the situation and get us back up and running

Basically felt we were being lowballed into getting them to fix the site. They said it would take 24-48 hours to run the scanner and fix our website.

Miraculously this was done in 2 hours. makes me even more dubious to the fact of what has transpired.

Every host is going to try and sell additional services. Best way to prevent this is to learn server management basics yourself.

I've used BlueHost and JustHost for years and never had any such issues. It's likely your site was actually infected. Having said that, I agree with Wayne Luke's comment above.
