  • hosting in different servers (vbulletin + photopost + wordpress site) is it possible and how to?

    hi guys.
its been a while since my last participation in the forum.

i have a domain ( which consists of three elements

    - wordpress as the content managment system
    - vbulletin 4.1.10 for the forums
    - photopost for the galleries

i have 12 more domains which all of them use wordpress as their cms. i have a dedicated server at softlayer to host all my domains but im paying a lot of money so im planning to move with another provider, i've found great options for the wordpress installs but none of them are compatible with vbulletin so my question is:

is it possible to host this domain in different servers?
the vbulletin/photopost part with one provider (data bases/plugins/attachments) and the wordpress (databases/content) at wpengine?

and if so, how do i handle traffic?
do i need to create subdomains (currently my vbulletin is installed in so do i need to create a subdomain or modify the dns record of the domain or how?)

thanks for your help and support

If you neither need nor can afford a dedicated server you can move to a vps, it does the same job as a dedicated only on a smaller but cheaper scale and with cpanel or plesk you can still host all your domains. Obvoiusly you will need a vps that can cope with the load.

I understand your situation. Since you have 12 wordpress sites, WP Engine is an awesome option, which you do not want to miss.

The simplest solution will be to create sub domain(s) and use a separate provider for VB + galleries. You ca create the sub domains at your domain registrars control panel by entering the IP address of your second hosting account. There are many tutorials available on how to do that, just Google.

If your existing forum has traffic and Google PR, you may want to do a 301 redirect for all pages, like from www.yoursite/forum/xyz.php to You can do that by adding some URL rewriting rules to your .htaccess file on your Wordpress site. I am sure WP Engine would help you do that.
