Just a quick note for anyone (like me) who uses Globalgold's specialist vBulletin hosting -
Tim Dunton, who set many of up on these hosting plans, has left the company completely.
Whether this is going to have any sort of adverse effect I don't know. I am already suffering memory issues and I'm being told I need to pay for more RAM, which is odd given my site was fine for two years. I'm frankly not optimistic as I have seen this sort of thing happen before.
That's a shame. Hopefully it won't be indicitave of any problems there.
I've had a memory issue recently too interestingly but I was planning to increase the package I was on anyway - since doing so I've had no further problems.
I do hope not. I'm a bit concerned though as my site is actually quieter these days than it was a year ago and suddenly the server load has gone up and they say it's because I need more RAM.
We heard on another forum that he'd left, so inquired as to where he'd gone.
He was the one who was with our server since we joined GG, so we decided to contact him and see what he could offer at the new setup.

Then we switched.
Better the devil you know
Thanks for that...I take it everything is good with the new set up?
I am considering going along similar lines - Tim knows his stuff.
That's why we switched TBH. He knows his onions and we wanted that comfort of dealing with someone who knows us and who is familiar with our requirements and how we work.
New set up? Can't fault it really. We had roughly 30-60 mins worth of downtime while we switched, then anything ontop of that was just ISP DNS servers catching up.
Everything was in place before we switched. There were some performance tweaks to be made on the first couple of nights of live operation, but nothing serious, and nothing unexpected.

Just ignore the crayola front end, we've ripped the arms off the designer and beat him to death with the soggy ends
Hi folks. I run a fairly big Celtic FC supporter's forum and we were a Global Gold customer until very recently. I only became aware of Tim's departure after a couple of minor problems were unresolved.
I'm not very techie, so Tim was brilliant for us - he took the concern and worry totally off my shoulders and pretty much ran the whole thing without it skipping a beat.
In all my time with GG, it was always Tim I dealt with, apart from when they wanted cash. When we initially went to Tim, our forum was dying due to success and lack of good hosting. Within days of first contact with him, months of problems dissapeared never to return. Tim listened to our woes, prescribed a cure, and implemented it. No fuss and no bollox - just what we wanted, when we wanted.
I have since migrated to www.NimbusHosting.co.uk and again, the switch was smooth and quick.
I can't recommend Tim Dunton highly enough - he's a rarity in my eyes, a tech with people skills and a man true to his word.

Reason: typos
I've been in touch with Tim, and it seems so many of the same sites that I respect whose use of Globalgold persuaded me to go there are now with Tim's new company, so....it looks like I shall be on the move also, as soon as I return from holiday In North Wales.
Also just completed our server move to Tim's new venture Nimbus Hosting (www.nimbushosting.co.uk)
After finding out that Tim had moved on, I got in touch via LinkedIn and arranged the transfer, there wasn't anything I was overly unhappy about with GG, but Tim was the one that resolved all of our previous hosting issues (prior to our move to GG in the first place), made the previous move effortless and truly knows the best way to configure a server to make even VB4 run fast!! (I know!) so was happy to follow him to his new company, the prices are also keen too!
Move went very smoothly, very quick too given that we have a fairly large forum
