I’m still searching for a good hosting plan and spent about 10 hours over the weekend reading this forum as well as webhostingtalk and webhostingreviews, but the available information seems to be all over the place. Webhostingreviews, by the way, is hosted by hostgator, so beware of any reviews you read there. They appear to be biased against most other hosts, other than themsleves, of course. I can’t find out who owns or hosts webhostingtalk so I don’t know how neutral they are..
I thought I’d do about 2 hours of research and be able to make an informed decision, but I was wrong. There’s a lot of information about hosts and plans, but I still am not able to determine what my needs might be. I’d like to ask a few questions here with the hope of establishing some type of benchmarks that would allow me to compare what my needs might be. Since I am new to vB, my list may not go far enough, so feel free to add to it or tell me if something is irrelevant.
For comparison purposes, I’d like to ask others to list a little info about their site.
· Number of registered members
· Number of daily visitors
· Number of stored posts
· Type of hosting plan (shared, VPS, or dedicated)
· Amount of hard drive storage you have / and is it adequate? Percentages used would be great
· Amount of RAM you have / and do you feel it is adequate for your site?
· Amount of bandwidth / and do you feel it is adequate? Percentages used would be superb on this one.
· Do your pages load quickly? I know this question can be very dependent on the Host themselves, but it might help me get an overall feel for how adequate different plans may be.
I think if I get some good comparison info I could determine what type and level of hosting plan I need, but I can’t even make it past this stage. Thanks to anyone that can list what they have for the above.
