Yes... Hostgator is a very good host. I would say the uptime would be 100%.

I’ve been with HostGator for over 3 years.. And yeah they like every other hosting site have had burps, and various ghosts in the machine on “Rare” occasions.
But the service, and performance is way beyond what I expected after having been subjected to Yahoo hosting
I highly recommend them to everyone that asks.

As for the affiliate program, I too have been disappointed that friends who sign up under my affiliate account get hosted but I never saw diddly in terms of commission.

Other than that, you can’t find better hosting for less.

There must be a reason why they suspended your hosting account.

Maybe you should read their Terms of Service to see what you can or can't do, on HostGator,

They only suspend people for breaking TOS.

Hostgator is great until they mess you over and then try to cover it up with an "I will look into it" answer. You are taking chances with your site with them. But, that is how they operate. You don't know you're stung until it is too late. It will happen, it always does with them. That is the only 100% they can guarantee on anything, that they will lose your site or mess it up.

If you know your site is going to break their TOS or resource limits. Why chance it in the first place?

If you backup often, you won't have an issue. I've been with HostGator for over a year now and never had an issue. Obviously, my site is no where near the size of others. But you wouldn't stick a really active site onto a shared hosting plan anyways.

My beef with them had nothing whatsoever to do with TOS or resource limits. If you stay with them, you WILL have issues and then you will see what everyone is talking about with hostgator. Until it happens to you, you can't understand. But you will, eventually, guaranteed.

I signed up at Hostgator mainly after reading this thread. After two months of use I am now planing on leaving them for something better.

Hostgator isn't a bad host, it's decent infact and the customer service is pretty good as well. Live support is always there and they do try to help to the best of their ability. But the fact remains that they have limits of their servers i.e max 250 connections. With my forum of about 4000 users and average 100 users online that means downtime at least once or more commonly twice a day for a few minutes.

In normal usage their speed is quite slow, at first I thought it was just me but then I carried out a poll at my forum and found that 75 % of the poll respondents thought it slow. 15 % thought it average and 10 % thought it fast.

I am now looking at Vbulletin specialist hosts like urljet.com and globalgold.co.uk Let see how they turn out.

Hostgator is a huge company, but with the bigger they get, the worst they usually get, Hostgator offers unlimited this and that, but in all truth if you start using too many resources they will suspend/cancel or make you upgrade, it's all in there terms and service, I actually know the CEO of the company, He is an alright guy, but I would stick with smaller companies that will actually go out of your way for you, but, there vps servers are WAY overpriced same with there dedicated servers.

I am going to start getting into selling vps's, starting in the next month or two, and for what they sell for $70, I would sell for $30-40, about 50% difference on what they are selling it for, Hell I even got some Dedicated servers for the prices of $80 which will beat a vps all day.

In the end it depends what someone wants, If you like them, stick with them, but if your site is too big, or uses too many resources, they will not like you, unless your loading there bank accounts with a lot of cash.

Just because they are one of the biggest shared hosting companies doesn't mean they are the best, that's for sure.
