BlueHost or URLJet ?

I'm new to Message Forums ...

Started with phpBB last week for the 1st time ... got it running on my Yahoo Small Business web host with little problem.

Then I decided I wanted more for my group ... and instead of putting them through the headaches of a "switch" later on ... I decided to go with the best right away ... and purchased a vBulletin 4 license.

BUT ... to my dismay ... Yahoo does not support PHP5 :-(

Hence why I am here.

So, based on all the posts here (which are quite helpful by the way) ... I believe I have narrowed down to two:

BlueHost

and URLJet

So ... what's the latest view on either of these?

FYI ... I am somewhat techy ... and have a group of about 250+ members and growing.

Price is another factor.

BlueHost is running about $6/month
URLJet is running about $25/month

So another question is whether URLJet offers enough additional benefits to justify the higher cost ...?

Might be best to search for reviews at hosting sites like webhostingtalk.com

but of those 2, I've personally talked with the owner of URLJet and they seemed (at the time) centered around hosting vbulletin forums, so they would get my vote of those 2.

There are tons and tons of host out there, check WHT to see what others have to say.

I believe BlueHost are turning the same attitude as many shared hosting environments, and simply staying clear of vbulletin & IPB softwares, as both are server intensive as they develop more and more features. Bar running the smallest of communities with nothing more than a handful of people online at any one time, it seems common for these shared hosts to be kicking more VB & IPB forums from their servers to shift more towards a VPS environment.

Keep in mind ... most of this is new to me and I like the fact that URLJet does the vBulletin installation.

I am a user of the URLjet hosting and I have been 100% satisfied with them. Perfect support and never had downtime at all.

URLJet and GlobalGold are good low budget hosting solutions specific for VB users at entry level. GlobalGold do have a cheaper entry level than URLJet, and it all comes down to how fast or slow, large or small your forum is right now. URLJet becomes far more expensive than someone like ServInt beyond entry level, for the quality of server specs to deliver a fast solution to your users. If you went VPS, then I would recommend ServInt entry VPS, though you are now also moving towards $50 a month when you talk quality VPS hosting, however; if you shoot for quality you have far less issues if you are dedicated to owning a forum and growing it, as forums become extremely intensive to run, and future has a lot to do with hosting choices now. You seriously don't want to be screwing about too much down the track with moving your forum around between hosts and the issue that creates.

Again... it all depends on forum growth. A decent VPS entry level could simply be overkill for you right now... though hosts like URLJet rely on getting a user in the door at entry level, then keeping them for ease as their forum grows, though deliver far less specifications and equipment than others do for less money. Often when starting out, you may just be better off to accept a few headaches with moves between hosts as you grow, to get the best bang for your buck.

You should do a search on these forums regarding URLJet and see they have very rare (if any bad reviews). Many vBulletin users have gone from here to URLJet mainly for 2 things - dedicated support and very quick servers. They offer LiteSpeed server software and not Apache - which you notice the difference straight away. They may charge more than a standard host, but once you are with them, you wish you had signed up with them first. I been with them awhile now, never had any issues at all.

Thank you Anthony for pointing out ServInt. I am looking at the possibility of moving to a VPS from a shared and I like what I see with these guys.

URLJet is specialist vbulletin host. They are really good, if you don;t mind the price. If you are looking for a cheaper solution, Hostgator would be a better bet over Bluehost.

I use URLJET they are extremely great for noobs like me , whom want to run a VBULLETIN site but doesnt have the skills.
they set you up , do everything basically install , mods , upgrades etc.....
so you dont do nothing really but submit a ticket and with 24hrs youre good to go..
the site i have 4,440 members , about 400 visits per day ... plenty mods .. about 200 active members . which isnt much but i use to be with GOdaddy and my site was always slow and went down at least 1 or 2 times not for long but did .. however Godaddy customer support one day told me to go GOOGLE it ..
thats when i knew i was in the wrong place , since then i been with URLJET ..

MY ONLY ISSUE WITH THEM , is the 10mb upload file max size ... which can be over ridden by just uploading the attachments bigger than that striaght through FTP..

ALSO if you have a big board with users registering and subbing to threads , their email limits per day is only 1,000 ...
for a small board like mine thats fine ..

i have VB GOLD thats 35.00 a month but if you pay for a year its only 30.00 MONTHLY for their in the middle plan ...

You'll probably find you can upload attachments over 10Mb's by using a PHP override in your .htaccess file, most hosts will allow you to do this anyway and saves you using FTP. Your best bet is to store attachments in the file system and not the database, as this causes database 'bloat' with larger forums and vBulletin by default saves attachments in your database.
