    They allow mod_perl?

Probably a silly question (and I should really ask them about it instead...), but do they allow you to install whatever you want on your own dedicated server? I need to install and run mod_perl (and PHP of course).

Typicly if you pay for a dedicated server, you can run just about anything you want on it, except pirated software, and child porn. Most people pay for a dedicated server so they can customize and get software they need that a shared server can't offer..

So yes, they more than likley would, most places are open about that, and others ban stufff like IRCd's becuase of high attack rate, which I think is stupid......

I'v also been with VO for around 2 months now, they have done a A+ great job. I have only had 1 outage and that was when the they moved, the server was back up within 1 hour. Mind you this was moving the rack from one building to another.

Tickets are usually answered within 1-2 hours.

I have vBulletin running on www.ausforum.com and Php nuke running on www.users.com.au along with a php/mysql banner program. So on plan 5 i have 3 databases going, 15 gig of traffic month and still no problems

For me it was either pay an Australian host (get real) or VO, and since the australian hosting is around $250/gig -- compaired to VO's 20gig for $25US, how can you say no!

My users don't have any problems with the US host as 90% are on broadband anyway

Does VO Dedicated not have mod_perl already installed?

PHP certainly is and I would be surprised if mod_perl is not.

                Hi there,

hmmm, I may switch to VO since so many vb people are happy there.
Asked my host to upgrade to php4 three months ago & nothing happened...

Does anyone know if they have mod_rewrite enabled for their VirtualHostings?

                Thanks for the info btw,
                -Tom

I use www.astrodawg.net and have had no problems. I get a reply promptly, sometimes within 10-15 mins.

VO are also highly recommend by other users. Although, Verio if I recall came in for a lot of flack a while back. I used to be with webcom but since verio took em over I left.

                        update !

I thought I would give you guys and gals an update on what VO have been doing for me.

I asked a question about vBulletin. The answered this within an hour and I was back on my way within this hour, great stuff.

I also wanted to order an SSL package. The details were sent to me within 2 hours and I filled in the required info. They got back to me to confirm what I had sent them, and from there they got underway. I have waited 2 days for this certificate to be processed. The guys and gals at VO say that I shouldnt be longer than 7 days for the process to be completed. Cool !

Now I have just dropped them a support message about TELNET as I am having problems with that, I can pretty much bet this will be dealt with in a short space of time.

It has gotta be said if you could give 11 out of 10 for support, VO would get it !

                        happy customer !

Without wanting to sound like a broken record, I shall continue.

For those of you who havent read the thread so far, I am writing a report that I aim to update weekly, telling you about my time with my host venturesonline.

I had a lot of problems setting up TEP cart software. I could not work out where I was going wrong, I even got a pro from this forum to help me out

I eventually swallowed my pride and contacted support, who replied within 2 hours and told me what rates I would have to pay for them to install it.

In the end the installation took 20 minutes. Not bad seeing as it had taken me 4 days to admit I could not do it.

So far I have no complaints about VO as far as I am concerned, they deserve their brilliant reputation.

Talking loud but aint saying nothing.

Just an addition from me: The server my site is on (I use a shared plan) had some troubles with stability. I got an email that they will move my site this Wednesday to a better server with 3.6 GB RAM and RAID-5.
I then got an email, that the technicians were worried since the server crashed again yesterday morning (I didn't even realize that). So they decided to do it this morning.
Now the move was done without any troubles. I lost absolutely no data and had not to fix many things which I had with other hosts I used in the past. I think the move was that fast that my site had almost no downtime. Furthermore, they upgraded to CPanel 4.
If they wouldn't have announced the move, I probably even didn't realize that they did it.

Again, they just do a great job and are worth the money. On some hosts you pay more and get less...

VO's must be great cause Ed Sullivan uses them now

They're great! Just hope they don't get overwhelmed by their success.
