I had aso for a few months. It got so bad that I went ot another host within a month. That host also sucked. I now host both my vb forums on my own server with no problems at all.

When I first started on ASO i thought they were great. Only a few hours till they set me up. But as mentioned before I found getting live contact was virtually impossible! They told me time and time again they did not have office lines. I mean really! A Telephone Answering Service really isnt that costly and compared to what they must be getting from their clients its more than enough to afford these services. I mean they even have them in the UK!
I have since canceled my account with them. Although many say negative things about Godaddy I have since found a single complaint with them! I go with the FTW!Last edited by Colin F; Tue 2 Oct '07, 2:25am.

A few people have been complaining about ASO of late. I read a thread on their forum where this person who has been with them for a few years was going off on one; saying the time-outs where getting out of order and said if things were not sorted ASAP for the better - he was leaving them after being with them for 2 years.
I've also just closed my account with them as well, but for other reasons not related to this. But I must admit, I was also getting sick of the time out with them also before closing late at night UK time.
I hope they sort things out, otherwise they might find themselves going from one extreme to the other in not being recommended anymore. Personally though, I've always had trouble uploading via FTP to ASO. I always had to upload in steps. If I tried to upload the vBulletin forum in one go. It will always time out. Not sure if it's a UK think, as ASO are hosted in the USA I think.
The trouble is, everybody has been recommending them for ages here, even myself. I guess they must have been over-run with new clients and it's effecting there service now.

We have been with them for over a year with a good sized vBulletin forum (have about 10,000 posts in it as of now) tho' only 37 members, but LOTS of attachments.
Anyway, yes they are fairly responsive through email, tho' I gotta tell you it is MUCH better to have a live human to talk to over the phone, which ASO does not have. It is MUCH better to work a real-time problem with a live person, obviously.
The thing is... yeah alot of the time performance is fine, but what is NOT acceptable are random "outages" where sometimes we just cannot even get to our home page -- the connection totally times out. Then later tech support at ASO says they had to do another "emergency reboot" on our server again. To me this sounds like a tech support cop-out or "blanket excuse" when something is wrong. Maybe that server is just overloaded, but we have had enough of excuses and are looking elsewhere.
Right now I'm thinking about a virtual dedicated server on GoDaddy.com since they have CPanel as an option and allow full ssh access with such accounts.
But I'm searching these forums to see if anyone else has solid perfomance with almost 0 downtime, full ssh and mysql access in a regular shared hosting account... I think I might have to go to a virtual dedicated one to get all of that. Opinions welcome!Originally posted by Neal-UK View PostNot me, their service was terrible and I had times when the site would load very slowly and the images would time out showing the red x's. FTP was a nightmare as that had time out issues which ended up taking about an hour uploading a few vBulletin files due to the problems.
It all worked fine for people in the US from what I could tell, but very poor to the UK. They said it was due to my ISP having the data bottle-necking between the UK and USA, which was weird as no other sites gave me problems!
I paid for 4 hosting accounts, two upfront for a year but left them with over 7 months remaining as it was that bad. Even my users started to complain.Originally posted by GreekieGurli View PostI have had a ASO shared account for two years with several outtages over those two years. Now that account just hosts a script that I upload pics to post on my board and that is all. I did try opening a VPS with them but had to cancel it the same day because they told me I couldn't add some support scripts that my youtube clone site needed. They refunded one year prepaid fee and I moved over to JaguarPC.
JaguarPC has been my number one host and is extremely reliable over ASO.
Their support is very fast too.Originally posted by speter View PostWhen I first started on ASO i thought they were great. Only a few hours till they set me up. I agree with all of you. We have been hosting with ASO For years now the first few months were awesome.. the 2nd year was very bad and so was the 3rd and our 4th year is very bad.
I dont want to bad mouth them but i am looking for a new host until then i am not moving from them. They have caused me so much problem.. ive lost databases and i literally cried.. yes i was very pissed off and furious and not a lot was done about it other than a week old backup. The server outages is becomming very common now.. i mean very common.
I was moved servers recently and i had asked them several times before the move nothing to be lost.. and the support rep told me hes done it a million times and everything will be fine. Then i'll leave the rest up to you to guess what happened after i moved. Not only was i affected by my resellers that i had with them. Some of their support staff are quite stubborn, and they contradict each other. I had this time where two support guys were looking at my ticket.. one replied saying "the data was lost and cant be recovered", and the other replied "i have recovered and rectified the problem" at the same time.. so what does this tell you? Malpractice.
Another funny thing thought id share.. not so long ago i was quite furious and i requested to speak to the owner as he does look at tickets himself and does respond to them.. now the owner is called "Mr X.A" (just for this scenario) so what the support guys did was they got another support guy with the same name but with a different surname to fool me.. so the support guy was called "Mr. X.Y" I then requested to speak to "Mr X.A" and not "Mr X.Y" they then replied with something like.. "Are you sure you want to speak to him because he is a very busy person" and im like why couldnt you tell me this before "Mr. X.Y" came on or did you try and fool me? but i didnt go down that route and gave them the benefit of a doubt, i frankly let them be.
But their almost always online with their support people. The only reason why i am with them is because of their quick response and that they keep backups and they allow ssh access.
What really is making me want to move away from them is their bandwidth. The bandwidth runs out fast for us and we are having to top up a gig for a $ each time as well as their server outages.
But so far so good, i am "somewhat" happy with them so far, but will be moving soon.

Oh! ASO seems to be on the slide! Actually I have couple of customers who were extremely happy with ASO(I do freelance programming) and I used to recommend them to many people. Guess I have to be little careful.Hosting Coupons: Hostmonster @ $3.95 and 20% off Mediatemple

I got off of ASO after trying ever so hard to be patient. It did not pay off. While they seem to know what to say, they didn't seem to be able to apply it.
IMO they source low grade servers for their racks too.
Timeouts are a hugh problem there and it still affects their current customers with no end in sight apparently.
50$ vps servers are highly overrated from any host for vBulletin as well. Choose wisely.Computer Help Forum
