  • Netscape Display Errors (Border Problems!)

    I have been designing webpages for about a year now. I have good basic HTML knowledge, but use Dreamweaver for most of my projects.

    I have been having the same problem with every site I have designed:

    Netscape (7.0) is displaying numerous BORDER's that I want invisible. In IE these borders DO NOT show up because I have made the BORDER COLOR white. But in Netscape, they show up a dark gray color. It appears that every table with a border of 1 or greater displays the border the same color (dark gray). In some cases, I have tried to create a border for a single cell... but a border is shown around every cell and the complete table. How can I get borders to display only in specific cells? How do I keep Netscape from displaying a border around everything?

    Here... take a look at one of my sites in Netscape:

    Now look in IE. This is how I want it to look.

    Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

    The bordercolor element on table rows or cells is IE proprietary.

    To cure the problem format the table borders using css. In particular the CSS "border" property. As a general note setting borders to white to remove them isn't particularly good practice, CSS allows you to remove borders by using the value "none".

    HTML Code:
    <style type="text/css">
    /* set a border to blue */
    .myclass {
     border: #3300FF;
    }
    /* remove a border */
    .myclass {
     border: none;
    }
    </style>
    The dreamweaver enviroment does allow you to visually define styles, without having to manually type out the style information.

      Thanks for your help!

      But I am not completely familiar with using CSS or style sheets. Any suggestions -or- good resources to assist me?

      I'm not exactly sure how I would apply it to individual tables, table rows, or table cells....

      Thanks again!

        Dreamweaver includes a basic tutorial.

        Devshed and webreference have a set of CSS tutorials.
