  • Viewing SSI Pages on my computer?

I'm on WinXP Home and I've set it so .shtml open with IE6.

Now one problem is that the address bar and the status bar don't show up when opened in IE. Another problem is that I can't get the code to include when running it from my computer. I've got all the structure right etc. However it just seems as if SSI wont work on my computer...

Does anyone know how I Can get it to show up on my computer?

        Ummm I go here: http://www.apache.org/dist/httpd/

Which one do I get?? There's too many different ones and I haven't a clue

        EDIT: http://uk.php.net/downloads.php

I think I download the 5MB ZIP on that page to get it all?

          what i did

          1. install apache for windows binary
          http://httpd.apache.planetmirror.com/docs/windows.html

          2. install mysql binary
          http://mysql.he.net/doc/W/i/Windows_...tallation.html

          3. install php manually as SAPI module

Ok i'm trying to install apache right now, but it asks me for network domain, server name and administrative email.

I just want to run SSI on my computer (ie. have it so SSI works...on my computer)...

So what do I do with these steps?

Ok i've sorta installed PHP, Apache and mySQL after spending atleast 2 hours trying to figure out which files to download, what to do etc. but It still leaves me v. confused.

Is all this necessary for SSI? I didn't think mySQL and PHP had anything to do with SSI

And after installing all three, I see no change and the same problems still stand

now you have to configure apaches httpd.conf to open and parse .shtml files.

search for a line that says something like

                #AddType text/html .shtml

                then this line

                #AddHandler server-parsed .shtml

and delete the # in front of it. that should do it.

you really don't need the php and mysql to run ssi, iti sjust a good idea for the future.

Was so easy to say wasn't it eva?

Why didn't you suggest something reasonable like installing a mini httpd rather than a full blown web serving combo?

N9ne, for viewing SSI pages on your PC apache etc is complete overkill. Not needed at all. There are a number of 'pocket' sized webservers on download.com that will do you fine.
Search for "http server" and "ssi" and you'll prolly find something to fit.

Maybe incase N9ne wanted to run a test vB on localhost at a later date?
