  • RubyOnRails or PHP?

    Hey everyone,

    wanted to see your opinions on what programming language to use for vBulletin extensions, integration into Web 2.0 technologies and to create your own Web 2.0 programs.

    Reason I'm asking is that I want to use vB as the core of a huge project which includes functions like Gaia Online (gaming platform), FaceBook (profile and networking platform), Twitter (quick messaging platform) and some other ideas I currently have.

    I'm not a developer myself, but want to learn a bit. This will be useful when hiring new people to join our team of developers. More knowledge will also help me understand the difficulty of their work.

    Now my question is, what programming language is the best to go with?

    And can you give some (very easy) reading to start with?

    P.S. Remember I don't know any programming. Can't get further than DB->query

    If you are going to use vB as the core it has to be PHP - as that's what vB is written in
