  • How does one begin to work on PHP to alter the member files?

At the moment, I want to create a karma hack for my forum. To do this, I would need to have a seperate area for the members to tally up the count of "karma" points.

Karma is a basically, a rating that moderators give to other members, based on good post, as well sa other task. It can also be used to reprimand other users, taking away karma in case they do something bad.

On my site, it's called Gil, but it's the UBB version of Karma

Moderators are the one awarding the Karma/Gil to people

But since VB doesn't have this hack, I figure i'd try to go and work on it on my own (even if it kills me), so I'd liek to get a headstart.

Bascially, the way I imagine Karma hack to be, is like a post count. A moderator will read the post, adn if he he decides that it's a good post, he can click on a link inside that post (it might be a invisible html link under the avatar, or in the post itself next to the IP button), where it brings you to a screen like this

where then i can choose how many gil I can put to rate a member.

WHat i really REALLY need to know is

how in the hell do i even begin to alter the field that has the information on post count? I'd like to start off by establishing some fort of data so at least I can make it show up in the template, (even if the value is "0"), and then from that point on I will work on figuring out how to make hte moderators alter this value.

ANy help on this would be HIGHLY appreciated (and worthy of many karma!)
