  • Which php and mysql book should i buy from amazon?

I am really serious about learning php and mysql to create my own custom mods and sites.
I know a fair amount of HTML and a little bit of php and mysql (from working with vbulletin for a year )

    I was considering this one

Then I saw this one here

Should I get a book that has both php and mysql or get the separate?
I saw that this same author (who got nice reviews) has them separate.

Get the bottom one. I have the top and it's ok, but not ... eh. While I haven't read the bottom one, I've heard some very good things about it.

        PHP Cookbook

Get the O'Reilly PHP Cookbook, 2nd edition. Practical advice through solutions is the only way to go. It provides you with tons code snippets that can be used as building blocks for all kinds of applications with a rationale of why you should approach problems in that way. There's a whole chapter dedicated to databases. With all the ever changing online docs, this is the way to go. Use the cookbook as a starting point then PHP.NET & MYSQL.ORG if you need to dig deeper.

        Cheers.

I have also found the following helpful and I am still a beginner. Literally 2 days but PHP doesn't seem like a language that should take someone forever to get the basics down.

          http://w3schools.com/php/default.asp

I haven't been able to find a really good beginner's book where someone doesn't say that the code is wrong.

It would be ok, but not great. I bought this Sitepoint book and found it really helpful. It's exceptional for a beginner, as well.
