  • Question about adding a password.

Say i have a website with things on it, and then theres a link to go to another page. I only want people i know to be taken to the other page and so i want to make a password setting so that when they click on the link, they are first given a thing where they have to type in a password that i choose, and if its correct they continue on. if not then they cant. So how do i do this in HTML.
Ex Click Here! Then "Here!"'s link is .. then how do i make it so when someone clicks there, they have a thing pop up asking them for a password that i have chosen, say - "johnny1" and then if they type in johnny1 they are forwarded to the site, if not then they can't get on. I dunno how else to word it..please help

There's a tutorial on how to implement .htaccess password protection for your site. This will *only* work if the link that you're sending them to is in a subfolder on your account. If you put the .htaccess file in the same folder as the other pages, all pages will be paswsord protected. Here's what I recommend.

in your webroot, place the page with the link on it. in a folder inside your webroot called protected or something, put the page you're trying to send people to and then use that tutorial to create the .htaccess file and place it in your protected folder.

This method will only work if your host allows .htaccess files.
