Invision Power forums or Vbulletin and Why ???

    Dear All,
I am myself an IPB fan since months now
But need to know from users/others point of views.
Please do not FLAME this topic. its just about your suggestions/recommendations..

Need to decide upon/among these two bulletin board systems only, finally its time to buy.

Please try to elaborate with some solid points when it comes to comparision between these 2 board systems

Please tell me what to select from above 2 and why ..

    Thnx
    Sandy...

      san-deep,

as you can see by the links that were added this is not the first time the subject came up.

baisicly VB3 is better the IPB (my opinion) however there are 2 drawbacks to VB3, one is the money and the 2nd one is that VB3 has not gone gold yet.

It really depends on what your looking for and when you need it, if you got the time i'd suggest waiting for VB3 (it shouldn't take too long now), otherwise i'd go with IPB but again thats just my opinion.

      Good luck

Considering that IPS staff closed your topic and the vB staff left yours open, I think that would say something.

IPB has come a long way. I just installed a free trial version for my personal site and I'll admit it's a nice board. But I still think VB is easier to use, customize and hack. IPB used to be fully free but now they seem to pressure you toward paying $200 for it. About $40 more then vb costs. You can still get IPB for a free unlimited trail, but as far as I understand it won't work with their new software releases (image gallery, ect) unless you purchase it. I only wonder how long it will be before they stop offering a free trial at all. My personal problem is that I still can't stop seeing IPB in my head as a free board slightly inferior to vb. Whether that's true or not anymore. So the idea of paying for it would cause me to just buy another vb license or go phpbb2.2 when it arrives.

But then I'm slightly biased. I started out by using Matt's free Ikonboard which was a pain to work with and gave me so many headaches I just decided to go vb and pay the price. Since then it's been smooth flowing for the last two years. That was at a time when none of the free software rivaled vb and the other pay software was more expensive. Times have changed. And what I've noticed is that as the once free software approches vb in quality it also includes a price tag.

But where the true test comes is in the community and VB top notch. Everytime I ask for help; someone (usually a vb employee) is there to help me out by answering my questions.

Without a doubt, though, IPB is as close as they come, but for me, it's vB all the way. Support is awesome, it has a large community of hackers/coders making some nice mods for your board, and it is just better overall IMO.

I'd say they simply wanna avoid a flame war like last time...by the way, vb also closed topics regarding this topic in the past!
Personally I'd say, if you don't care about money, get a vb! But at the other hand, I know big successful forums which have a vb license but switched over to ipb. So it's really up to you.

Where IPB don't IMO im not gonna say why because it will start so many topics at IPB

                    thnx for all ur infos.

please answer a few more questions.

                    what is vb gold ??
i want to invest money. as i said, i am already running ipb 1.3
and now my forums are growing big.

i am also planning to buy a portal software like virtuanews
hence, checking responses from users before actually investing the money.

                    Regards,
                    Sandy...

vB Gold is a final and stable release of vB3, meaning it is ready for use on any website.

vBulletin 3 is currently in a development status, just like ipb 2

The difference is that we do not close these threads because of the topic, as you can clearly see since this one is still open. We only close them when they degenrate into personal insults. And that's true with any thread on these forums.

It´s easy atm, Invision Board is better.
current stable of vbulletin is 2.3.4 and ibp have much more features.
Noone know release-date of vB3 ( it is now 1 year in beta-test and I think final need 2-3 month more ).
                            Invision Powerforum have use mysql4-fulltextsearch ( vb2/vb3 don´t have this feature )

There is a hack for it for vB2, and vB2 and 3 still need to support the MySQL 3 system
