  • Straight dope breaks 1 MILLION posts!

    http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/index.php

they have over 1,000,000 posts now! and from what I can tell no pruning, ie those figures are accurate (threadid=1 is still there).

    Gameplay is at 1.6M,
    FanHome is at 1.3M

any others that broke the million?

if my average stays where it's at, I'm looking at 293 days to break 1 million. I hope it gets there faster

Yes, it breaks a millions post but its damn slow.
I don't want to sound pessimistic here, but i (personally) HATE slow boards. I just don't stick to them.
Waiting 5-10 seconds for a page start loading is something that get me out of a web site and I know my visitors would storm me if one day I get that slow. Bad for my business.

I understand they are using 1.13 and that its peek traffic time.... but once I 'll get that big I'll certainly be using a more advanced database solution (vb sybase ? Vb caching ? Vb static ?).

I know that After 2.0 jelsoft will focus their effort on making vb enterprise class solution. I will follow very closely the evolution.

straightdope forum has been heavily (i mean heavily) hacked with optimisations by no other than J.Eng (guy who wrote the 2 posts in my sig) hence why it's still on 1.1.3

Also the script in my sig was written by him as well
