        jesus what a pain!

I can't remember if tforum is the one who tried to sell vB as their own or if they're the one who came up with their own, somewhat clunky code.

My first copy of tforum is dated 1998. If it's a copy, then it's a pretty old one.

I think the one your thinking of is not this one that wasn't Vbulletin. It was php but not MySQL and I remember it in a different forum.

                  Perhaps you are thinking of...

phpBB. A very nice FREE BBS that uses php with a mySQL backend. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles of Vbulletin, but it has quite a few! It's about as easy to install as Vbulletin and for the price you can't beat it! I just set it up at www.totalnonsense.com/phpBB if you want to check it out. It's a full fledged board, not a toy like vbulletin lite....

Wow! The best 404 I ever get, excellent coloring, descent graphics.
You should add more pop-ups. I close them too fast before other appears.

vB Lite is for testing server environment not a toy.

                        sorry guys...

My PhpBB is fine, but my server is having mySQL outages. So even Vbulletin board would be out if I were running it. Go to www.phpBB.com which is the homesite and you'll be able to see some good samples. This board scales well and is nice for those not able to shell out so much for vbulletin. Thanks for the constructive criticism of my homepage. Do you mean I need more menu popups? Not quite clear on what you mean? I have no windows popups except for my art poll. I realize that Vbulletin lite is crippled so as to not hurt sales of the main product. I wonder if if the guys would ever consider having 2 versions of Vbulletin. One scaled back, but usable version for a lower price, and the full version for those who need it. I think it would increase their sales without increasing support too much because on would basically be a subset of the other. Let's face it, does everyone really need *every* bell and whistle? Probably not...

Alternative to Vbulletin for us poor folk.

ok... This is not the site with all the stupid popups that the first poster put up. www.phpBB.com

My customized site using this software is finally back up thanks to my hosts resolving their mySQL crisis (not much there yet)

                          www.totalnonsense.com/phpBB

And some examples of really busy boards that use this FREE Script.

                          http://www.phpbb.com/phpBB/

So what do you all think? The setup procedure for this board is easy like Vbulletins, but the style of phpBB is more like UBB...

2 users and 5 users is busy?

what would you think of mine, then?

                              I realize...

...that perhaps it's folly to post such things on a Vbulletin board. But I hoped to give those of us poor folk a healthy alternative to spending a lot of dough for a decent BBS. I don't know what the snide comment about "busy" is, but you'll notice that those boards are currently holding thousands of posts and yes! they do get busier at peak times. If I had spent a ton of cash on Vbulletin,Perhaps I'd be touchy about *good* free alternatives that might be seen as competitive. Hopefully the availabilty of such will convince the authors of the excellent Vbulletin to either drop their prices a bit or offer a fully functional, but less fully featured product at a lower price. Just think, if there were a "hobbyists edition" selling for around $40-50 with no yearly licensing requirements, how nice that would be... I'd buy it in a second! The guys would have to support two versions it's true, but don't they already do that with Vbulletin Lite? And since the "hobbyists edition" would be essentially the same as the full edition with fewer features, perhaps it wouldn't be such a huge concern. Or maybe I'm just totally wrong. But I think there's a huge additional market out there if Vbulletin goes for it!
