To my knowledge there is no silver relesase.
A gold version is just computer industry jargon for a product that has been released. I belive iit has to do with master cd's (the one's used to burn the distro cd's- were at one point gold colored. Hence, when some thing had gone gold, it was ready for distrubution.

So what will happen to vB2.3.x when vB3.0.0 is officially released ?(Faithful vBulletin Member & Proud Licensed Owner since May 10th 2002)

Just out of curiosity, will vb2 still be downloadable after that vb3 has gone gold?
I myself see no reason to download vb2, but maybe somebody want to.
And another question, the current site (vbulletin.com) is very like the default skin of the vb2 forum, will the site be redesigned after vb3 goes gold to match the new style?

Hmm, I remember vB 1.x still being downloadable for a short time after vB2 went gold...OPEN TECH SUPPORT

vB2 will be available for a while if for no other reason than people running older versions (pre-2.2.9) will need to upgrade to it before they can upgrade to vB3.Steve Machol, former vBulletin Customer Support Manager (and NOT retired!)
