  • Avatars, Ranks, Sigs? these are the questions...

Note: Im not sure if this is the right spot for this but...

Hello as I get closer to completing my forums, I was wondering about a couple of things and one thing was to allow avatars.

What I would like to have is a "user" ranking image. But I did not see this option, I will assume its a hack.

Since I did not see this option I thought of using avatars, but was wondering how this affects MY space, bandwidth, etc. Should I be concern or will allowing a 65x50 size lets say av be ok? what'a ya think? Any insight on this would be appreciated.

Also if I allow img's in the sig... coming from the users own site, does this affect my usage as well?

DL from another site effects their bandwidth.

You mean A user get's a new avatar when they reach a new rank ?

or How do you mean with user ranking image ?

Thats what I thought for DL as I do it on boards I go too. cool so thats ok.

Yep thats what I mean. But If I understand it correctly the user would have to change the avatar themselves right? or would it automatically change after a # post have been met. If so this would be that image rank I mentioned.

a Newbie would get 1 star until 50 post, then right after that when he post for the 51st. time the image would automatically change to whatever the next rank "image would be."

          It Would auto-change.

It's something I've been doing since I started with vB 2.2.8

Ah humm what's that? Com'on man toss me a bone here . Im just getting my feet wet with configing this thing.

I do have another Question. I cant seem to find/get it. I want to have/allow an image in the sig. Now Ive done this before on other boards I visit in my sig. How exactly does this need to be setup? My image is not showing up... just the url.

This is what I got in the sig example.

edit see the above is showing a broken image... I dontr even get this, just the url spelled out.

            But it does not show.

In the CP I see the options but dont know if I have it right.

Allow vB IMG code in signatures? yes
Allow vB code in signatures? yes
            Allow smilies in signatures? yes
            Allow HTML in signatures? no

you have to type [img*]url [/img*] (With out *)

              to have images show up.

other wise the link will just show up
              ------
It has something to to with user titles for a hint.
              ------
              screen:

Using Suse i just got it up and running myself. Have not realy played with it since Im working on my BB.

But yes I did what you said that's how I think I always did it, but the image still does not show. Just the URL. That is why Im thinking Im missing something, or have an option disabled. Im going back now to see what if anything is causing this. Thanks.

Beats me but it's working now. But just to clarify it should be like this when you want to use an image correct.

                  [img*]http://myurl.com/images/image.gif*[/img*] <-- without the * correct?

Edit here's what I found: it seems like when you add the the [img*] tag it needs to be on the same line as above. But if it is like this when you enter your sig
                  [img*]http://myurl.com/images/image.gif*
                  [/img*]

The URL shows instead of the picture.

I was on your site, and checked them out. If you are talkingabout the smilies looks cool. I went to the link but they want my Lic. info. Is this site part of VB.com (the same people) or some else al together? The link above in the forums go there directly. So Im thinking yeah. Thanks I'll have to go back when I get a chance.
