My thoughts are running along the line of "If you don't have a userbase to begin with, why start a forum in the first case?"
My open eyes see everything, and you see nothing. . .

Well, my site (that is currently non-existant and has been for about a year) started with a message board (currently non-existant and has been for a week or two), so when I started, I had no userbase.

Every board I have ever started, started with 0 userbase. One boad got up to 3,000 members in just a few months. It just depends on what the topics are and the design helps.

Yeah that's the kind of thing you go admitting openly.

Too many forums for my liking, will scare off people.

Get a few friends and yourself to start the posting, people tend not to like posting new topics and perfer posting reply, so if they see nothing to reply to, then why register?

Why need to send confirmation email? stupid with that size board.

And never goto other boards to advertise, i ban any member who does, even long term members at my site and it really annoys me. Get visitors on your own, don't go and try and steal other sites users.

And even though i visit the forum i really don't have a clue what its about, seems like a poor attempt of making a forum. Also forum only sites fail, no doubt about that, get some content, give your visitors a reason to return, a forum is not one of thoes reasons.

Forum only sites DO NOT fail. All over the internet there are boards that exist just on their own.

I don't think that there are to many forums, it's just that there are to many varieties of forums. You need to build a community before you can expand it. From the url, I thought I would find a sports community. Which you are. Sort of, but your community has an identity crisis. Am I sports first, or am I "nerd stuff" first? I would suggest the following changes:

Move your sports forums up above your chit chat ones. Thats what people are going to be there for, or so I would assume. Maybe add a general sports discussion forum.

The others should be condensed into an off topic/general chit chat forum on your forum home, serving as sub forums. Once you have some activity, you can start to split the more popular ones out onto forum home. Remeber that folks who are really into sports are less likely to be into some of those other forums, you have, so you may have to cut them completely.

As others have said, give people a reason to join you. Make up some fake names and start posting. make it look like you are having fun there, and people will join you.
