  • MacBASIC?

Has anyone else heard of this? I was looking for a Visual Basic program to use on my mac, and I found this article: http://www.igeek.com/articles/History/VisualBASIC.txt

Bill Gates also decided to punish Apple for competing with him (with Hypercard) and to this day will not release Visual BASIC for the Mac as a slap -- even though it would be beneficial for both markets to do so.

Visual Basic is hardly a language that is used for the vast majority of coding, because it is terrible (at least pre-.Net which I don't have experience with), only somewhat OO and bulky to distribute, among other reasons. OS X already has Cocoa/Carbon and other APIs as well as Objective-C which many people seem to use already in conjunction with Project Builder.

I personally don't like Project Builder because it has several problems with C (it never flushes stdout before getting input via stdin and doesn't offer the function tooltips and such), but that's probably because I'm used to all-godly IDEs like the superb IntelliJ IDEA.

Yeah, I simply like how the VB6.0 programs at school are and I just wanted to mess around with that on my mac, but it doesn't look like that's possible.

XCode is amazing, and.. wow. I'm sure a lot more people will be using Apple's Development tools now then were before.

I myself am going to give Xcode a try but I don't want to spend $129 (or $70 for an academic license) just for a simple OS upgrade. Xcode sure looks way more powerful than weak ol' Project Builder.
