Has anyone ever had to wait a full 48 hours for DNS?

    I'm curious and impatient.

I've seen it update within 16 to 24 hours. I've heard of people getting 12 updates though.

Yes. And more frustrating.... when it works sometimes, and then a bit later does not.... then works again. Fun watching it bounce around.

On one of my machines in the office, I use ExtraDNS to eliminate slow ISP propogation times.

Most of my domains I have registered in the early afternoons. By the next morning most of them have propagated by then.

Took me about 3/4 days with my last domains. Was working for everyone, except me

I've seen a domain take 36 hours but never any longer (gone through around 50 domains)

Propagation maxes at 5 days normally, if it has not propagated within that time, usually there is a problem. I believe most of the registrars state 24-48 hours, a few update in 12, some take the 24-48, then lastly, there are those that range in the 3-5 days.

I always use GoDaddy & NameCheap so times stay in 12-18 hours areas for me.

GoDaddy is usually around 12-18 here too.

Buying a new domain takes a few days to propogate.

Though, you can change the TTL on an existing domain, and it could take literally seconds to change the IP address of the domain (bad idea, increases load on the nameservers that host your domain, good idea if your going to be moving hosts though!)

I have waited even longer then that.

usually 24-48 hrs, depends on your registrar, if you changed your DNS servers before 6 pm pacifac, if you changed it after midnight, consider yourself waiting the full 48 hour push and pull, unless you get lucky but not likely

Actually most propogation depends on the ISP and how often they update their DNS servers. Some are really slow and take several days even though your domain information will usually show up in WHOIS within 24 hours.
